10 Simple Interior Designer Tips for a Stunning Bedroom Décor

A bedroom is a personal space. It where you go to relax after a long day, and it is the place where you sleep at night. You should want your bedroom to provide a comfortable environment that you want to spend your time in.

Making a comfortable bedroom that offers a good environment is not something that happens on its own. You need to take your time and consider some of your interior design choices. For people that are looking to create a better bedroom design, here are a few simple tips for creating the right bedroom décor.

Get the Right Furniture

Getting the right furniture is one of the keys to a good bedroom interior design. A big part of this is getting bedroom furniture that is the right size. If you have a small bedroom, going with smaller furniture can help to open up the space. If you have a large bedroom, larger pieces of furniture can help to fill the space. If your bedroom is particularly large, you may even want to consider additional pieces that go beyond the standard bedroom furniture. Something like adding a comfortable chair to one of the corners to create a reading area.

Select Your Colors

The color scheme can have a dramatic impact on the way a space feels. For most people, the preference is for the room to have a relaxing color design. This means avoiding colors that are too bright. Neutral colors are a popular choice for bedroom design. You could also go with colors like green, blue or lavender to create a relaxing environment. When you are choosing the right colors for your bedroom, remember that this is not just about the walls and the ceiling, you need to consider things like the furniture, the carpeting and your bed linens.

The Layout of the Room

The architectural design of most bedrooms will account for the layout of furniture. Usually, you look around and you see a wall that seems perfect for the bed. This is no accident. It is where the architect intended for the bed to go. That said, the proper layout of the rest of the furniture might be less obvious.

When you are working out where to put the rest of the furniture, you need to think of the flow of the room. How are you going to get out of bed? Do you plan to have a night table? Where are you going to get dressed? You want everything in its proper place, and you want to leave enough space for you to move around and access these different areas.

Lighting

It can be good to have multiple lighting options in the bedroom. Most bedrooms will have one main light in the center of the ceiling that lights the entire space, but you might want some additional lights for other purposes. If you have a reading area or you like to read in bed, you might want to get a lamp that is good for focusing light on your reading material. The light in the ceiling is good for when you are up and doing things in the room, but it might be a bit much for when you are trying to relax. Having some smaller lights with shades can be good for setting a more relaxing atmosphere.

Your Bed Linens

The bed tends to dominate most bedroom designs, so it is important to consider your bedroom linens in the design. As I mentioned before, you want to go with bed coverings and sheets that match your color scheme, but you also want to consider comfort. Finding the right sheets, blankets and pillowcases can make a major difference when it comes to your quality of sleep. Design your bed for comfort and use the color and design of the linens to help set the tone for the overall interior design of the room.

Manage Your Storage

Storage is important for bedrooms of all sizes. You are obviously going to have a dresser or some other storage solution for your clothes, but you want to consider storage for other personal items. Having good storage helps to keep a room neat and free of clutter, and that can make for a more relaxing bedroom space.

Save Space in Smaller Bedrooms

Space management is one of the most important parts of designing for a smaller bedroom. Going with smaller furniture can be one way to open up some space, but there are some other things that you can do. If you can find a bed with good storage underneath, that can help to free up some space. Hanging shelves on the wall can also be good for adding storage and decorative areas to the room. If you need to have a desk in your room, you can save some space by building one that attaches to the wall.

Decorate Your Space

A bedroom is supposed to be a personal space, so it should reflect your personality. In a larger room, you can use decorations to help fill the space out a little. In a smaller room, you still want to have some decorative items, but the key is to not overdo it. If you overdo it in a smaller room, it will make the room look messy and cluttered. One thing to keep in mind is that you want any decoration or personal item to fit in well with the overall design of the room. If you just add decorative items to the room without thinking about how they fit in, it will give the room a confused feel to it.

Use Natural Light

If you can take advantage of natural light, you should do so. In the day, it can save you money on having to light the room with artificial light, but there are also several health benefits to having natural light in the bedroom. Natural light is better for your eyes and it can also have a positive impact on your mood. Exposure to natural light can also help you sleep. Much of your body’s natural sleep cycle is regulated by your exposure to sunlight, so it is good to have as much natural light in the home as possible.

Window Coverings

Having natural light in the room is a good thing, but there are times when you are going to want to cover your windows. Along with excluding light, shades and curtains can also offer more design opportunities. You can get curtains that play into the overall color scheme of the room. You could also use them to add some patterns or textures to the design of the room. As another option, you could use your curtains to contrast with the color design in the room. If the walls are light, try to select dark curtains. If the walls are dark, go with curtains that have a lighter color or shade.
As a final bonus tip, just take your time. Developing a good bedroom design takes some time, and you may not even get it exactly right the first time you try. Set up a base design for the overall look you are going for, and then refine it as time goes by. You don’t need to rush through the design. You can change things and make minor adjustments until you get it right.
